  ABSTRACT

FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF BILAYER TABLET CONTAINING LORNAXICAM LIQUISOLID COMPACTS AND ACECLOFENAC MATRIX RELEASE TABLET

Out of many complications two major problems facing in formulation industry are poor solubility and short half-life of drugs. In the present design to overcome these problems a bilayer tablet is formulated in which upper layer is prepared by liquisolid compacts to increase solubility and lower layer prepared for sustained release to increase bioavailability of short acting drugs. The upper layer is formulated with lornaxicam which can relieve severe pains and the lower layer is formulated with aceclofenac which can relieve long term pains. Lornoxicam is a BCS – II drug having poor water solubility, hence to enhance the solubility, it is designed as liquisolid compacts incorporated in upper layer and the lower layer having aceclofenac as sustained release (SR) dose. The major ingredients selected for upper liquisolid layer were micro crystalline cellulose, propylene glycol, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate and Sodium starch glycolate, while the lower SR layer comprised of HPMC K4M, K15M and Pectin. The prepared tablets were evaluated for all physical parameters like tablet size and shape, hardness, weight variation, assay, disintegration and dissolution studies. The best formulation L3 from liquisolid compacts and S4 from sustain release tablets were selected and compressed into bilayer tablet
