  ABSTRACT

ACUTE TOXICITY STUDIES AND ANTIPYRETIC ACTIVITY OF A POLY HERBAL FORMULATION

There is an increasing demand for the medicinal plants in developing countries like India. Attention need to be given to assess the medicinal value of such plants to explore the potential drugs out of it. Medicinal plants constitute important components of flora and are widely distributed in different region of India. The aim of present study was to evaluate the antipyretic activity of a poly herbal formulation by Brewer’s Yeast induced pyrexia in Wistar rats. The poly herbal formulation (150 and 300 mg/kg) showed very significant reduction of yeast induced pyrexia in rats with respect to the control group. The antipyretic activity of the extract was comparable to the standard prototype, paracetamol. The acute toxicity result reveals that this poly herbal formulation might be considered as a broad non-toxic one. The polyherbal formulation showed marked antipyretic activity in a dose dependent manner.
