  ABSTRACT

ANTI INFLAMMMATORY AND ANALGESIC ACTIVITY OF HYDRO ALCOHOLIC EXTRACT OF LEAVES OF SAPINDUS EMARGINATUS

To screen hydro alcoholic extracts of Sapindus emarginatus leaves for analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities in experimental Albino Wistar rats. Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by carrageenan induced paw edema method; analgesic potential was determined by hot plate & tail immersion method in Albino Wistar rats. In evaluation of antiinflammatory activity the hydro alcoholic extract (300mg/kg) shows significant inhibition of paw edema by 79% at 4th hour compared to standard phenyl butazone. In analgesic by hot plate method in albino Wistar rats the hydro alcoholic extract (150mg/kg) shows significant activity after 120mins whereas at a dose of (300mg/kg) shows significant activity after 90mins. By tail immersion method shows significant activity after 120mins. The findings of the studies demonstrated both antiinflammatory and analgesic activities of the leaves of Sapindus emarginatus which could be the therapeutic option for inflammation & pain
