  ABSTRACT

A VALIDATED UV SPECTROSCOPIC METHOD OF METOLAZONE IN BULK AND ITS TABLET DOSAGE FORMS

The present UV spectroscopic method is simple, accurate, specific and highly sensitive, developed in 0.1 N NaOH. The method is validated for the determination of Metolazone in bulk and its tablet dosage forms. The standard solution of Metolazone in 0.1N NaOH showed maximum absorption at 236.5 nm. The method shows high sensitivity with linearity 2 to 12µg/ml. The lower limit of detection and the limit of quantification was found to be 0.208 and 0.6308 respectively. All the calibration curves shows a linear relationship between the absorbance and concentration and coefficient correlation was higher than 0.9991. The regression of the curve was Y = 0.1543x +0.02503. Precision of the method was found to be 5.0135 ± 0.044 against the label claim of 5mg. The percentage recovery was found to be 100 ± 0.188. The sample solution was stable up to 2 hours. The proposed method will be suitable for the analysis of MTZ in bulk and in marketed preparations. The results of analysis have been validated statistically and by recovery studies.
