  ABSTRACT

ROLE OF CANCER ANTIGEN-125 AND OXIDATIVE STRESS IN CLINICAL STAGES OF PRE-OPERATIVE OVARIAN CARCINOMA

Ovarian carcinoma is most lethal gynecologic oncologic disease with a high mortality rate. The present study was attempted to investigate role of cancer antigen-125 and oxidative stress in the clinical stages of pre-operative ovarian carcinoma. Total 160 subjects were enrolled for the study. Study group comprised of 80 clinically and histologically proved cases of ovarian carcinoma and 80 healthy women recruited as a control group. CA-125 level, MDA and catalase activity were estimated in all the subjects prior to treatment. The serum level of CA-125 and MDA were significantly higher (p=<0.001) in study group as compared to controls whereas CAT activity was significantly lower in study group as compared to control group (p=0.001). The present study concludes that CA-125 level is significantly higher in the early stages .So these findings indicate that CA-125 is a potent marker for early detection of ovarian carcinoma
