  ABSTRACT

CONTROLLED HYPOTENSION IN MODERN ANAESTHESIA: A REVIEW AND UPDATE

Controlled hypotension during surgery has been practiced for decades. Aims of controlled hypotension are to improve surgical field condition, reduce blood loss and transfusion requirements. The concepts and techniques of controlled hypotension are changing with time. This review highlighted the important aspect of controlled hypotension, such as physiological changes with hypotension, evidences for its effectiveness, contraindications, risks involved, methods and techniques to provide desire hypotension as per the surgical need. Review concluded with discussion on the current role of controlled hypotension and available options for controlled hypotension for various surgical indications
