  ABSTRACT

NEONATAL SEIZURE AND HEARING THRESHOLD LEVELS ESTIMATION IN PATIENTS UNDERTAKING LUMINAL DRUGS

Objective to evaluate the hearing status of children with seizure who under luminal treatment and to investigate if Luminal drugs has result in hearing loss. A group of 24 children aged between 1-2 years of both sexes who is taking luminal for more than 6 months duration were included in the present study. All children underwent different audiological battery tests including otoscopic examination, tymapnometry, distortion product otoacoustic emission, and auditory brainstem steady state response. Audiological tests showed that all group have normal hearing threshold levels at all tested frequencies, where subjective behavioral observations showed lack of responses to sound stimuli. Luminal drug does not play a role in inducing hearing loss in patients treated for epilepsy, objective measures are better indicators to evaluate the hearing status in such group of patients than observing the behavioral subjective responses
