  ABSTRACT

DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF ANTI- INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY OF HERBAL GEL FORMULATION

The present research has been undertaken with the aim to formulate and evaluated a new herbal gel formulation containing extract from cassia fistula, Acacia farnesiana and Ocimum sanctum for it’s topical anti- inflammatory activity against carrageenan induced rat paw edema method and cotton pellet granuloma method. The studies were conducted o n wistarrats of either sex (150-180g). The gel formulation was designed by using carbapol P- 934 (1% w/v ), cassia fistula, Acacia farnesiana, Ocimum sanctum extract. Ethanol, propylene glycol 400, EDTA, methyl paraben, propyl paraben, menthol and required amount of distilled water. The skin ph (6.8-7) was maintained by drop wise addition of tri- ethanolamine. The prepared gels were evaluated for physical appearance, pH, spreadability, skin irritation to observe side effect. The overall result of this research the prepared herbal gel formulation shows significant anti - inflammatory activity
