  ABSTRACT

PHYSIOTHERAPY A BETTER CHANNEL FOR STROKE MANAGEMENT- AN OVERVIEW

A stroke occurs when there is vascular disorder that leads to vasoconstriction or block which causes deprivation of brain tissue of oxygen and food, the event immediately leads to infarction of brain cells. The core objective of the physiotherapy is improving the listed activities there is a profound contribution which is commendable: restoring self-ability. With rise in cases with cerebrovascular accident, commonly referred as stroke the treatment has rapidly evolved to deliver short hospitalization and targets self-activity. Emerging evidence shows that physiotherapy very early after stroke (mobilization within 24hrs) and at high intensity leads to better outcomes and is cost-effective. Physiotherapy is valuable in correcting these issues, where necessary in training the individual to compensate for these deficits. Interventions focus on muscle reduction, transfers, restoring and improving gait and training in the use of mobility aids.
