  ABSTRACT

ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY OF A NEW FLAVONE GLYCOSIDE FROM THE SEED OF CASSIA SOPHERA LINN

A new flavone glycoside isolated from methanol soluble fraction of defatted seeds of Cassia sophera Linn., which was characterized as, 5, 7, 3’, 4’-tetrahydroxy -3-methoxy flavone-5-O--L-rhamnopyranosyl-7-O--D-glucopyranosyl(13)- O--D-xylopyranoside by various colour reactions, chemical degradations and spectral analyses. In present paper, it was screened against Aspergillus niger, Tricoderma viride, Fusarium oxysporum and Penicillium digitatum by using paper disc diffusion method. Results were compared with the zone of inhibition produced by commercially available standard antibiotic. It was observed that it showed good activity against these fungi.
