PHARMACOGNOSTIC AND PHYTOCHEMICAL INVESTIGATION ON WHOLE AERIAL PART OF ARGYREIA NERVOSA
The present studies give the results of pharmacognostical and phytochemical studies conducted on the whole aerial part of Argyreia nervosa (Burm.f.) Bojer, a woody climber, distributed throughout India. Pharmacognostic studies included the organoleptic, physico-chemical, fluorescence analysis of powder drug (aerial part). The results show that the drug can be characterized specifically on the basis of these characters. The crude powder drug, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts are investigated for the presence of different phytochemicals. Results show the presence of some major phytochemicals like alkaloids, glycosides, tannins and flavonoids. The results of this study will possibly prove useful for establishing scientific standards for the identification, purity and quality of the drug.
