NEUROPROTECTIVE ACTIVITY OF MUKIA MADERASPATNA LINN. ROEM AGAINST MPTP (1- METHYL 4-PHENYL 1,2,3,6- TETRAHYDROPYRIDINE) INDUCED NEUROTOXICITY IN RATS
The present study evaluated the Neuroprotective activity of Mukia maderaspatna Linn against MPTP induced neurotoxicity. Intraperitoneal administration of MPTP (20 mg/kg) produces alteration in the normal function. Biochemical estimation showed increased lipid peroxidation and antioxidant levels. Histopathological evaluation of MPTP treated group brain sections shows alteration in the normal architecture. The treatment with the Methanolic extract of Mukia maderaspatna Linn at the dose of 100mg/kg and 200 mg/kg p.o. respectively significantly reversed the biochemical and histopathological changes caused by MPTP. In conclusion, the findings of the present study indicate the possible neuroprotective ability of Mukia maderaspatna Linn in the treatment for Parkinson’s diseases.
