ORO DISPERSIBLE TABLETS: A NOVEL APPROACH
Drug delivery systems are becoming increasingly sophisticated as pharmaceutical scientists acquire a better understanding of physico-chemical and biochemical parameters pennant to their performance. Novel ODT technologies address many patient and pharmaceutical needs such as enhanced life cycle management to convenient dosing particularly for pediatrics, geriatrics and psychiatric patients who have difficulty in swallowing (dysphagia) conventional tablets and capsules. Aim of this article is to review the development of ODTs, challenges in formulation, new ODT technologies and evaluation methodologies, suitability of drug candidates and future prospects.
