FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF PRESSED COATED PULSATILE TABLET CONTAINING NIFEDIPINE
The short biological half-life (2 hr) and high frequency of administration initiated to need to develop once a day control release formulation. The morning BP surge was reported to be associated with high risk of cardiac death, and ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. These conditions demand release of drug after a lag time. The objective of study to formulate and evaluate of pulsatile drug delivery system containing nifedipine for the treatment of hypertension which is use deliver the drug at specific time as per pathophysiological needs of the disease and improvement of therapeutic efficacy and patient compliance. The pressed coated tablets were prepared by HPMC-K4M and ethyl cellulose. Water uptake and rupture test gives an indication of delayed releasing tablet for 12 hour. The appropriate concentration of both coating material gives desire release of nifedipine. The present study concluded with the approach that can provide a useful means for pulsatile/programmable release with single pulse.
