  ABSTRACT

QUALITATIVE ESTIMATION OF PHYTOCONSTITUENTS AND IN VITRO ANTIOXIDANT POTENTIAL OF TINOSPORA CORDIFOLIA STEM EXTRACT

In the present study our aim was to evaluate Phytoconstituents and In vitro antioxidant potential of hydromethanolic stem extract of Tinospora cordifolia Linn (Menispermaceae) using standard screening methods and De-oxyribose method respectively. Different degrees of effect were noticed in case of different methods of study. In phytochemical screening, Tinospora cordifolia showed presence of secondary metabolites: Saponin, tannin, alkaloids, flavanoids, glycosides, phenol etc. The extract possessed potent hydroxyl radical scavenging activity having IC50 value 50.27 at 70µg/ml against the positive control standard Ascorbic acid having IC50 value 51.56 at 60µg/ml. These findings demonstrated that Tinospora cordifolia possess free radical and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity. In conclusion the present study indicates that Tinospora cordifolia may be a potential source of natural antioxidant
