MAMMARY GLAND STIMULATING EFFECTS OF THE CRUDE PHENOLIC EXTRACTS OF GREEN TEA (CAMELLIA SINENSIS)
The galactagogue action of the crude phenolic extracts of green tea (Camellia sinensis) was studied in mice. The crude phenolic extract of Camellia sinensis leaves in adose of (100,200 and 400 mg/kg bw) was significantly (p<0.01) increased serum prolactin level.. The weight of the litter of the females treated with 400mg/kg bw of the crude phenolic extract of Camellia sinensis leaves, was significantly (P<0.05) higher than those of female of control group. However, the weight of the litter of the females treated with 100 and 200mg/kg bw of the crude phenolic extract of Camellia sinensis leaves didn’t showed significant changes compared with the weight of litter of mothers of control group. The section of the mammary tissue of the mice treated with crude phenolic extract of Camellia sinensis leaves showed larger acini and more secretory activity, compared to the mammary tissue of the lactating mice in the control group
