CHANGES IN GROWTH, BIOCHEMICAL AND ENZYMATIC CHARACTERISTICS OF CYAMOPSIS TETRAGONOLOBA (L.) TAUB UNDER METAL STRESS DUE TO BARIUM
In the present study, the seedling of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub were treated with various concentration of barium chloride and its impact on the morphometric, biochemical and enzyme characters were studied. After ten days of treatment with different concentration of barium chloride (2mM, 4mM, 6mM, 8Mm, 10mM) the growth parameter such as leaf area, fresh weight, dry weight, shoot and root length were decreased than the control. Photosynthetic pigments namely chlorophyll, and carotenoids, and the biochemical characters such as soluble sugar, protein content also decreased with the increase in the concentration of barium chloride. But the content of free amino acids, proline and leaf nitrate increased wit h the increase in the concentration of barium chloride. The activities of enzyme such as catalase and peroxidase baring nitrate reeducate were found increased with the increase in the concentration of barium chloride
