DETERMINATION OF INCIDENCE, DISTRIBUTION AND PATTERN OF OCCURENCE OF ADVERSE DRUG REACTIONS IN A TERTIARY CARE TEACHING HOSPITAL: A PROSPECTIVE OBSERVATIONAL STUDY
To determine incidence, distribution and pattern of Adverse Drug Reactions in a tertiary care teaching hospital. The present study was conducted in subharti medical college, meerut Uttarpradesh from 17 august 2005 to 16 august 2006 for a period of one year.In an attempt to monitor ADRs health care professionals of departments were sensitized about importance of reporting suspected ADRs and trained about what to report and how to fill a reporting form and encouraged them to report any suspected ADR encountered in inpatient as well as outpatient. The clinicians were reminded time to time ADR reporting. There were seventeen reports were received during study period Most of the ADRs were seen with Antimicrobials which are pertaining to gastrointestinal tract. The maximum ADRs reports received from Medicine(41%) department. Most of the ADRs reported were mild in nature and donot require specific treatment. The present study may be considered as preliminary study and further studies should be carried out at large scale
